TV on the Radio had the best album of 2008. It had some stiff competition from Fleet Foxes’ incredible Debut self titled album as well Vampire Weekends also self-titled debut. TVOTR, however, mixed princely falsettos and handclaps rooted in African-American churches with dissonant washes of feedback provided though guitarist and producer extraordinaire David Sitek (Maximum Balloon). The timing was perfect, released September 22nd, two weeks before the Presidential election, just enough time to absorb the ideas, the concepts and bring them with you to the ballot. They were calling for change, not directly political by any means, but TVOTR was, in their lead single calling for a “Golden Age”

Ah here it comes, bring it faster!

The age of miracles.
The age of sound.
Well there’s a Golden Age.
Comin’ round, comin’ round, comin’ round!

What this “Dancing Choose” does differently is first off, the lyricism is masterful. The words flow like old-school Eminem rap song, backed by some of the best produced music of the past decade. The chaotic, heartpounding nature of each verse is juxtapose with the highly melodic chorus that really doesn’t change that much. That guitar riff played by Sitek is highly memorable, and every time the song starts, you simply can’t wait for that riff to come in. Lyrically tunde Adebimpe invades your ears, only to make sweet, sweat love to your brain.
